What should be paid attention to when cutting carbon fiber pipes?

There are many factors to consider when estimating cutting carbon fiber pipe: cutting tools, facing materials, PPE, dust collection, etc. Dust collection is the main problem. Particles and dust from cutting carbon fiber tubes can be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. Like many other fine particles, carbon dust can explode under the right conditions, and proper dust collection will greatly reduce this risk.

Cutting carbon fiber tube:

There are many ways to cut carbon fiber tubes, whether you use a dicing saw, tile saw, or hand-held cutting tool, follow these simple steps to ensure a clean cut every time.

Choosing the Right Blade for the Job:

This is an important part, when cutting composite materials, use diamond-coated abrasive cutting blades instead of toothed blades. Teeth can catch fibers and tear material causing chipping or delamination, thick tube may generate enough heat to reactivate epoxy causing blade to “stick”, to prevent “sticking”, cool cutting face /blade, using a segmented blade will help reduce heat, another option is to use a wet saw for active cooling.

Support tube:

Properly bracing/supporting the pipe is essential to achieve a neat cut, to ensure a square cut, place the pipe against a straight edge or embankment and support it at the right angle.

Unsupported pipe can cause “flashing” which is caused by movement of one side of the pipe before the cut is complete, burrs usually appear on the “dropped” section, if multiple sections are to be cut from the pipe, support the pipe’s cut The end and the drop end are critical.
